IAF set to acquire 24 second-hand Mirage-2000 fighters

17 Sept 2021

The Indian Airforce is set to acquire 24 second-hand Mirage 2000 aircraft built by Dassault Aviation to bolster its fighter fleet. The contract is worth 24 Million Euros, which results in 1.125 million euros per aircraft acquisition cost. The aircraft will be shipped to India in containers.

Out of 24, 13 aircraft have the engine and airframe intact and 8 of 13 are in ready-to-fly condition. The remaining 11 aircraft will be scavenged to obtain parts for existing aircraft.

The fourth-generation fighter performed extremely well in the Kargil war in 1999 and then in the Balakot strikes in 2019.
