Indian Navy Inks contract with BEL for Anti-Drone Systems

1 Sept 2021

The Indian Navy signed a contract with BEL on Tuesday for the first indigenous Naval Anti-Drone system (NADS).

The BEL is expected to sign similar contracts with Army and the Airforce.

The system is developed by DRDO and is manufactured by BEL.

The system has both hard-kill and soft-kill capabilities. Soft-kill refers to jamming the drones system without using destructive force while hard-kill involves a laser-based killing system.

The NADS can instantly detect and jam micro drones and use a laser-based kill mechanism to terminate targets. It will be an effective, all-encompassing counter to the increased drone threat to strategic naval installations, said the Ministry of Defence.
